Safari lodges in the Sabi Sands

Leopards have a habit of stealing the show in the Sabi Sands – and to be fair, they’re very good at it.

But there’s much more to this corner of the greater Kruger. Expect exceptional wildlife, high-quality guiding and lodges that range from relaxed and understated to unapologetically luxurious.

A few things worth knowing

Best time to visit

There’s no bad time to go – just two very different seasons.

Dry winter: May – September
  • Cooler days and crisp mornings
  • Thinner bush makes wildlife easier to spot
  • Animals gather around water
Green summer: October – April
  • Rain and lush green landscapes
  • Migratory birds and plenty of new life
  • Hot and humid, with dramatic afternoon storms

Getting there

It is part of the adventure.

Nearest airports
Fly into Hoedspruit Eastgate (HDS), Kruger Mpumalanga International (MQP) or Skukuza (SZK).
Nearest airstrips
Take to the skies again with a lodge hop or private charter to Arathusa Airstrip, Londolozi Airstrip, Sabi Sabi Airstrip, Singita Sabi Sand Airstrip or Ulusaba Airstrip.

It may feel far away from everyday life but getting there is easier than you might think. Fly into Skukuza, Hoedspruit or Kruger Mpumalanga International airport and continue by road transfer or take to the skies again with a lodge hop or private charter. Prefer to drive yourself? That’s an option too, with lodges accessed through different reserve gates depending on their location.
